On 5th June, the FUTURE4BATT, From Waste to Value, was successfully held. This clustering event was co-organised by Revitalise, BATMASS EU Project, ReUse Batteries and RENOVATE projects.
This event served as a key initiative for convening stakeholders from across Europe’s battery ecosystem. It fostered dialogue on the current landscape, emerging challenges, and the strategic direction of the sector.
A particular highlight was the insightful contribution from Eliana Quartarone, our project coordinator, and Carmen Cavallo, R&D section leader in Advanced Characterisation & Recycling, at FAAM, who shared valuable perspectives on battery recycling and repurposing, and our RENOVATE objectives.
Key takeaways:
- An overview of the current state of the EU battery.
- Identification of major challenges, including raw material dependency, sustainability concerns, skills shortages, and the need for industrial scale-up.
- Analysis of the evolving policy and regulatory landscape.
- Discussion of industry needs and strategies to address them.
- Presentation of R&D projects in shaping the future of energy storage.
- Emphasis on the critical role of collaboration across research, industry, and policy to accelerate progress.
Europe is aspiring to increase competitiveness and solve the challenges in battery sustainability. Achieving this ambition will require the seamless integration of scientific research, engineering excellence, market intelligence, and political commitment. With collective effort, Europe can position itself as a leader in the green battery sector.
Many thanks to all sister projects and participants for this fruitful co-organised event! Finally, here are some pictures that showcase this valuable gathering!
